  • Mid-1970s - Grendel's Cave is a pen and paper dungeon game.
  • 1981 - Mars Software writes the first computer version for the SWTP 6800 personal computer.
  • 1997 - Grendel's Net starts work on Internet version of Grendel's Cave.
  • August 1998 - GC v1.0 released.
  • July 6, 2001 - GC brought down by hacking and cheating.
  • January 2005 - Grendel Enterprises acquires rights to Grendel's Cave.
  • April 1, 2005 - First GC 2.0 beta, v1.8, rolled out.
  • November 11, 2005 - Version 2.0 goes live.
  • April 9, 2010 - Version 2.1 rolled out.
  • September 12, 2011 - Grendel's Cave suspends operation.
  • November 13, 2011 - Grendel's Cave resumes with version 2.5.
  • July 1, 2012 - Version 2.6.
  • February 15, 2013 - Version 2.7.
  • August 17, 2013 - Version 2.8.
  • February 16, 2014 - Version 2.8.1.

  • June 1, 2017 - Speedrunning - Speedrunning Kingdoms added to Grendel's Cave
  • April 1, 2018 - Grendel's Cave goes dark indefinitely
  • August 1, 2020 - Grendel's Cave comes back with version 5.0
  • December 7, 2020 - Grendel's Cave continues with version 5.1
  • January 6, 2021 - Here we go again with version 5.2 - PK as well as non-PK kingdoms, new Styraes kingdom types
  • July 9, 2021 - Grendel's Cave revamp with version 6.0 - Unlimited Play free version of GC but with significant subscription perks
